Lucille L. Curnutte

April 26, 1923 — May 22, 2021

On Saturday, May 22, 2021, Lucille Curnutte, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many, joined her Lord at age 98.

Lucille was born April 26, 1923, in a log house in Livingston County, MO. She was the first child of John David Loren Lovell and Edith Ann Elizabeth Clutter.

She attended Pinkley Grade School and Jamesport High School and graduated in 1941. After high school, WWII had begun and Lucille worked for two years as a “Rosie the Riveter” on B-25s in Kansas City, MO. Here she met her husband-to-be, William Oram Curnutte. They were married on April 1, 1945, in Lake City, FL.

Lucille became a Christian at an early age at Lilly Grove Church northwest of Chillicothe, MO. She has been an active member of Morse Mill Baptist Church since the early 1950s. She was an advocator and collector of Best Choice barcodes, raising several hundred dollars for the church kitchen fund. She was also the church photographer and took baptismal photos for many years. She loved her church and considered them an extension of her family.

Lucille was a housewife and mother, a mail carrier in Dittmer for 10 years, and a professional photographer specializing in weddings for over 25 years. In retirement, Bill and Lucille loved to travel the country in their camper and attend Navy and family reunions, national parks, and enjoyed seeing the sights and meeting new people. Lucille was often recognizable by the signature hats she wore. She enjoyed working on her family genealogy, sewing and quilting, painting, working with her flowers, feeding her birds, and caring for her cats.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband and three infant children; sister and brother-in-law, Viva and Alvin Stretch; brother-in-law, Norman Curnutte; sisters-in-law, Lee Fischer and Lora Kelly. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon George (Gus); granddaughters, Colene Jahn (Andy) and Anna Britton (Jason) all of Ireton, IA; great-grandsons, Evan and Nathan Jahn; nephews, Ross Stretch (Connie) of Dittmer, MO and their children, Kerwin and Kristy; and Daryl Stretch (Jeanette) of Jamesport, MO and their children Kimberly, Brandy, and Adam; niece, Sheryl Cox (Jim) of Carrolton, MO and their children, Aaron, Kyle, and Sean; and many great-grandnieces and nephews.
