John Michael Stewart Sr., born October 24, 1966 in Chicago, Illinois passed away suddenly on September 9, 2023 in DeSoto, Missouri at the age of 56. John married his high school sweetheart, Amy (née Butler), on June 6, 1987. His greatest gift to her was their children: Coley Fetters (Mark), Amanda Ruhl (Jeremy), Hailey, John (Gena), and David. He was the proudest papa of four grandchildren: Jace and Julie Ruhl, and Rusty and Harry Stewart.
Additionally, John is survived by his father, Warren Stewart, his in-laws Michael and Elise Butler, his siblings, Sheri, Suzanne, Ron, and David. He was a loved brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend to many. John has been reunited in Heaven with his daughter, Hailey, his mother, Patricia, and his brother, Warren, all of whom he dearly missed.
John lived the last 33 years in recovery. His last day was spent sober and living his program. He was an avid fisherman, sports fan, and cook. John had an immense enthusiasm for music, especially of but not limited to his favorite Irish rock band, U2. Above all, John will be remembered as a family man. He loved life and lived it to the fullest.
John was raised in the Catholic faith and his spirituality was a large part of who he was. Though his body has departed this earth, we are confident in his salvation and the everlasting glory that welcomed him at the gates of Heaven. He was surrounded by our love here on earth and is now bestowed the eternal love of his God and those he himself has loved and lost. It is now Hailey's turn to be with our dad.
"Dad, you taught us how to love ourselves and how to love others. You were a constant example of hard work, determination, and perseverance. We knew we were your world, and you will live on in our hearts. We are proud to have belonged to you and we are who we are because of you. We'll see you when we get there."
