Edna "Marlene" Adams (nee Holcomb)

August 11, 1936 — November 1, 2018

Edna Marlene “Mar” Adams was born August 11, 1936 in Hickman, KY.  She was the daughter of William “Milton” and Emma Hazel (nee Mayo) Holcomb.  She lived the early years of her life in Lake County, TN. Her parents were sharecroppers and were displaced by the government to East St. Louis when she was 9.  After high school she worked with her mother at Bemis Bag in St. Louis and at SWBT (phone co.)   She had 5 children by her first husband.  The children are now all deceased.  I don’t know how she survived such tragedy over the years. We married in 1971 and lived in St. Louis, San Francisco, New Jersey, and Chicago and then settled in Kansas City, MO.  Marlene became a very knowledgeable student of the human condition.  She studied for most of her life to understand people and their behaviors.  She thoroughly enjoyed gardening and any creative endeavor. She created some beautiful pieces of art that mostly became gifts to friends and loved ones. She became quite an excellent baker and cook.  She loved animals of all kinds and was the most caring person I ever met.  She loved being surrounded by friends and family.  She made us laugh and made all our lives richer and more meaningful.  She wrote a wonderful little book “Willie of the Willow” that I hope you get to read sometime.  She was a very devoted friend and a loving partner to me for 47 years. I miss her dearly.

She leaves to cherish her memory:

Husband- Joseph Adams, of Hillsboro, Mo.
